Going where the wind blows us

Today we took an in-town (and near town) mini-vacation. It was kind of an impromptu thing... we didn't have any plans and things just sort of worked out in our favor. We started the morning off with a trip to the local farmer's market. It's nothing fancy or big (I think maybe a dozen vendors or so) but I'm so glad St. Joe even has one. We checked out everyone's goods and decided to get a cantaloupe and tomatoes that looked to-die-for from an Amish couple. Since it was so nice out, we decided to go to the local orchard and pick apples afterwards. One apple-cherry cider slushy, a bag of popcorn, and six pounds of assorted apples later, we decided to drive around and find where Lake Contrary was. We both knew it was in our general area but had never been. Getting there landed us in the very south side of St. Joe and we thought we might as well enjoy a drive around, so we continued to go down Hwy 59 until we wound up in Atchinson, KS. I've driven through many a time to get to Topeka and Nick drives through it for work all the time, but neither of us had every actually been to the town. We visited Nell's Hill and drove past the Riverwalk, Amelia Earheart's birthplace, and through the Benedictine College's campus (which is beautiful!). After a trip to DQ for supper, we called it a day and came home for naps and house chores. Here's a few pictures of our little "mini-vaca".
