This Sunday we took a road trip. Neither one of us realized we would. We just thought we were trying out a new church. Nick had seen an ad at OCC for a youth ministry position at a little Christian church in Quapaw, OK. It said it was 20 miles away. We've learned it's easier to try a church before applying than applying first, seeing if it would work, and then having to decline a position. So, we decided to try this little church in Quapaw out. We headed out half an hour early just for some extra time. I was kind of excited. It's not every Sunday you drive through three states to get to church! We realized after the first 30 minutes on the road, it was going to be a lot longer than a 20 mile drive. We ended up getting there after 45 minutes on the road and it was such a tiny church, we were afraid they'd stop the service if we went in that late. We ended up having "church" in the car on the scenic drive back home. We're still searching and praying where God wants us. Sometimes it's easy to get impatient, but yet we know God will direct us where he wants us in due time.
My Wednesday night Bible study ended on last week. I loved it, but was kind of relieved to be released of a commitment. This week Nick has 5 book reports due, a 10-verse memory quiz, and a test. This is starting to get typical. He's doing the best he can (which is better than I could ever do!). He is constantly up late at night doing homework. I know it's just part of this season of life, but it seems like when we are finally home in the evenings we both are busy (his studying, my cleaning the house). It's nice to have Wednesdays back home. I offered last semester to help a senior at OCC with her musical senior practicum assignment, so that will keep my Tuesday evenings this month busy with rehearsals.
Last Friday, we got our Y membership. We worked out on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. We both have enjoyed having quality time together doing something that's good for both of us. The YMCA in Joplin is wonderful... newer, lots of weight machines, cardio, aerobics room, walking track, gyms, pool, etc. We have two in town that we can go, too, which is convenient. With orchestra from 7-9pm last night, we weren't able to go, but we took a 30 minute walk when I got off of work. We both are really sore from the weekend, but excited to remain consistent. Tonite, we'll be having "date night" at the gym again. One of Nick's favorite machines is a Body Trec machine that has a small flatscreen TV built into it. If you bring your own headset, you just plug it into the machine and choose your cable channel. It's a total "Nick thing"!
This week, we'll be reaching record breaking temperatures (warm, not cool!). Both of us are excited. We've had cold, windy, cloudy days off and on the whole month. All the sunshine and warm weather has been wonderful. Have a great week!
