This past week has gone by so quick. Last weekend we decided to take a little getaway from all the selling the house stress and homework craziness. Last month we took our first trip to Rogers, Arkansas (a wonderful 55 minute drive from Joplin, but it looks and feels like its much further away). Our friends, Jeremy & Sara, along with Jeremy's brother Phil joined us as we spent Sunday afternoon there. They have some wonderful shopping and restaurants down there. We all spent a couple hours in Borders, perusing the books. I was happy with my buy at the GAP later in the day (I got two nice dress shirts for $4.99). Later in the evening, we ate at P.F. Chang's.
It has been raining all week long which has really helped our yard a lot. We had some patchy spots that I reseeded. I didn't know if anything would grow. We've been seeding the yard for a couple of months now, but even with watering the lawn it's still been to dry for anything to come up. The rain has been such a Godsend... we have lots of little sprouts making their way out of the ground now! The sun decided to pop his head out today which I was ever thankful for (I personally can handle only so many cloudy days). I took a walk at OCC while Nick was taking some down time at home playing video games.
Nick got his last sermon done for his homiletics class yesterday. He felt really good about how he did, but was a little hurt at the response (several students critiqued him pretty harshly). I'm sure he did fine... they tape the sermons and so he'll get his back this week so we can view it. Thankfully, he's done for the semester with preaching so that's all that matters! He has a teaching assignment next week and five book reports and then he's done. He just found out that he only has to take 1 final because as a senior he qualified to get out of finals. He also was told he made school history during his exit interview last week for taking the most amount of credits. I doubt it would be made public at his graduation, but I'm beaming and will gladly tell anyone who will listen how hard my guy has worked!!! He got his cap and gown a couple days ago, so it's really starting to feel official.
The house still has not gotten any bites. We've had one walk-in appt. in the month we've been advertising it. Nick's parents are going to list it through a realtor if nothing happens within the week. It's proving to be a challenge trying to sell a house during the "real estate depression" that's hitting the nation right now. We advertised well in the local newspaper--- for some reason we are getting calls from people asking how many garages it has, if it has a fire place, a basement and or a third bathroom (it doesn't even have a second). The house is listed under the $60-80k listing section, so I don't know why people expect those features in a house of our size and price. It would be a great starter home for a young couple, an elderly couple, or a group of kids in college. Hopefully, we'll be able to report some good news soon.
I got all the paperwork submitted and am set to attend MoWest this fall. Acceptance at MWSU isn't exactly rigorous, but it was still a good feeling getting the acceptance letter!
Tomorrow the church is having a BBQ for the worship team so we'll be going to that. On Sunday, Bill & Julie (Nick's parents) will be joining us for the day. That evening we have ticket's for OCC's musical, the Sound of Music. Next weekend we're looking forward to going back north to celebrate Mother's Days with our moms. On Saturday, we'll be treating my mom to a day on the town (on a college kid's budget, so we won't get around too far!). On Sunday, we'll be joining Nick's extended family for their annual Mother's Day brunch at Nick and Jake's in Parkville.
Hope you have a good weekend!
