There's a New Kid in Town

Here's the Facebook note that I posted the week Luke was born.

Luke Aaron Greenlee was born on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 10:55pm at St. Luke's Hospital in KC, MO. He was 9lbs. 5oz. and 21 inches long. He has strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes.

Our little boy's due date was coming around the bend, but we were surprised that when we went in for a standard OB visit, we'd come out with a baby. We had an appointment scheduled Tuesday morning to have an ultrasound performed (they could already tell Luke was going to be a big guy and they wanted an idea of how big he was). They predicted he was around 8lb. 12oz. and everything looked great except he was not moving as much as they would have liked so they put me on monitors for a non-stress test for 20 minutes. The results weren't good or bad so I ended up being admitted to labor and delivery to be monitored for a more extended amount of time. We were both planning on being discharged soon after. Our stay ended up being well over five hours before we were told we could be discharged; however, I had been experiencing contractions about 4-5 minutes a part steadily the whole time and didn't want to leave only to have to come back later that evening possibly. They let me roam the halls and walk for a while and things progressed, though the plan was still to discharge me since I wasn't yet necessarily in labor. As we were preparing to leave the doctor came into our room (we'd worked with a nurse all day) and she announced that she would in fact have us stay and she wanted to induce me because there had been a few dips in Luke's heart rate over the last hour we were there. When I went in that day I was already 4 cm dilated. They broke my water at 7:45 and I went into intense active labor for about three hours. Luke arrived a little before eleven that evening.
