Earlier this month, I ordered a baby carrier and I can't begin to tell you how my world has changed! Luke is a "hold me 24/7" type of guy which I love doing, though it's posed some challenges with keeping up with household chores. My pediatrician has recommended letting him cry it out in his crib, though that just goes against my instincts (plus, how long can anyone work with a screaming baby before they have to do something about it?!). I had been doing everything one-handed as best as I could for the first month. It is so nice to have both hands no longer tied up. Right now, Luke's sleeping in his carrier (please cue "Hallelujah Chorus") which frees my hands up now for an update.
The past few weeks have been a blur.
Last Thursday evening, we drove up to KC. Nick had to work overnight (as in through the night) in Olathe at a Home Depot store. The company has taken on a new contract installing new machines but the catch is, the stores getting them want them put in after store hours. Thus, the working through the night routine. Luke and I stayed at my in-laws house in Overland Park, so when Nick was done with work (which was around 4am) he could just join us soon after and crash.
The next day I had a 6 week-post pardum check up at my OB in the Northland area. I was so excited to bring Luke along to show the staff (who are just the greatest... everyone knows you by name and is really personable). I got the go-to from the doctor to start doing crunches again, which I'm (believe it or not) really looking forward to. My stomach took a major beating with the pregnancy (gaining 60lbs will do that to you!). So, far I've lost 40 of it, but my body's really out of whack, so I'm eager to get into a fitness regime. I've learned the hard way never to let pregnancy become an excuse to gain personal weight.
Luke has been such a joy. It's altogether fitting that his name means "light", because as cliche as it may sound, he is the light of our lives. This past week he has started coo-ing and smiling. I've been the only one to encounter it so far and I'm so eager for others to see his latest milestone. He tends to be his happiest earlier in the morning and late at night (which are times when it's just the two of us). I haven't happened to have a camera handy at the right time, but I'll look forward to posting pictures when I catch the moment.
He has grown and changed so quickly over the last few weeks. I need to get him weighed. I haven't had him checked in over a month, but I have a feeling he's got to be well over 10 lbs. (based on how fast my arm falls asleep when holding him, which is not real scientific, I know, but it's worked as the gauge of measurement in the Greenlee household). His waist still fits in 0-3mth shorts, but because of his length he fits in 6-9mth one-piece outfits. He's very much a string bean. Yesterday, he was Mommy's little helper. I had a lot of errands to do around town and I was curious to see how the two of us could get things accomplished. I hadn't really ventured out much since Luke's been born since it's been nearly impossible to do, so I was thrilled that he did so well. We were able to go to the bank, the pharmacy, the bread outlet, and to Todd's Tire to get the car repaired. It felt hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk (later that evening I heard on the news that the heat index was 104!), so I'm sure some onlookers thought I was nuts carrying Luke, draped in a blankie, in his carseat. Thing is, the air conditioning in some places can be so cold, I have prepare for extreme elements (extreme heat and cold). After errands, we pit-stopped at my Grandma Morehead's so that we could catch up and she could see Luke (she had been on a week long excursion with my aunt to Yellowstone so she hadn't seen him in a while). I had him dressed in one of his (many) cute outfits he's received from his Grandma Julie and he was too cute for words (though I'm a bit biased)... a little grey one-piece play outfit with red trim & collar and bugs designed all over it. The cutest thing was the hat that came with it. I'll have to post a picture of him in it.
Thinking of which, I better head off. Luke will probably wake up at any time now and I still have some things to do around the house, one of which thing is calling to get an appt. set up at JC Penney photo. I've been really late in the game about getting his pictures taken. I will try to post some updated photos of Luke soon.
