A blah day

Today was one of those dreary, rainy makes-you-want-stay-indoors-and-do-nothing kind of day... good thing that's what was in store. Luke & I laid low at the house and pretty much lounged around this morning. We read Sesame Streets' Bubble Bubbles probably a good fifty times. If you're looking for great books for itty bittys, check out the dollar bin at Target this week. We got five great Sesame Street board books and Luke just loves them- one on colors, one of shapes, one on the alphabet, etc. They're only about six pages with very few words (perfect for little ones that don't want to bother with long stories, but just love the pictures). Luke has been in hog heaven.

This afternoon we ran out to the local Hyvee and did some grocery shopping for my meal I made tonight (chicken continental, baked potatoes, yeast rolls, and chocolate cake.... hardly diet food but oh so good!). I must have underestimated the time it would take me to get through the store because wh

en I came back, I had no time to bake each item individually. I didn't want to serve supper after seven so I fudged and baked three items at the same time (a really stupid idea, I know). I was SO lucky the chocolate cake didn't smell like seasoned chicken and vice versa! Anyways, everything turned out awesome. I love chicken continental; Nick's parents had never had it before and so it was fun to introduce them to something new. I had such a weird experience with the yeast rolls though. I had a bag of dough (premade) from the store that I let rise all day and half of them rose in the oven and the other half didn't rise at all and had a weird texture (chewy almost). I have no idea what went wrong there... I've tried making yeast breads from scratch twice before and they did the same thing. I'd love to know what gives. Thank goodness everything else was awesome.

Tomorrow, I'm looking forward to progress on the housing situation. We have both a termite and mechanical inspection in store at noon and then if it goes well, we'll proceed to the lender's office later that evening to sign the contract. I'll be really anxious to hear what the inspector has to say and will keep you posted.
